Prof. Dr. Streeck, Hendrik

Prof. Dr. Hendrik Streeck is the director of the Institute of Virology at the University Hospital Bonn. He started his medical career at the Charité in Berlin and received his PhD from the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Bonn. From 2006 to 2009, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School. His positions have included Assistant Professor at the Ragon Institute of Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard Medical School, and Chief of the Division of Cellular Immunology at the US Military HIV Research Program. In 2015, Streeck moved to Essen, Germany, where he became Chair of Medical Biology and founded the Institute for HIV Research in the same year. In August 2020, Prof. Dr. Streeck was elected to the COVID-19 Expert Group of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP).

In the last 2.5-3 years, the global world economy has suffered greatly from the pandemic – and so has sport. Away from all the consequences, the question arises whether we will have to face further pandemics or other challenges in the future in the context of ever-increasing globalization. The virologist and advisor to the German government, Prof. Dr. Hendrik Streeck, summarizes the developments of the last three years in an exciting lecture and gives a scientific outlook on the future.
