Celia Šašić is a former German footballer of Cameroonian-French descent. She played for SC 07 Bad Neuenahr for almost ten years between 2004 and 2013, then from 2013 until the end of her career in 2015 for 1. FFC Frankfurt, where she enjoyed her greatest successes at club level, winning the 2015 UEFA Women’s Champions League and the 2014 DFB Cup. Since 2005, she has also been a member of the national team, with whom she was European champion twice.
Celia was two times top scorer in the Bundesliga, as well as top scorer in both the Champions League and the World Cup in 2015. In 2012 and 2015, she was voted Germany’s female footballer of the year, and in 2015, after ending her career, she was also voted Europe’s female footballer of the year.
In 2013, she married Croatian footballer Marko Šašić and took his family name.
Celia is an ambassador for UEFA EURO 2024, a special advisor to DFB EURO GmbH and an integration ambassador for the DFB. She also sits on UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body. She was elected DFB Vice President for Equality and Diversity at the DFB Congress on March 11, 2022.
